Sweet Emily is 10 weeks old today!
Last night Steve and I were laying in bed with Emily trying to get her to sleep; it was one of those peaceful, perfect moments and I said to him, "did you ever know you could love something so much?" That's all I can think about lately, how much I love her and I wonder what I ever did before her? When she smiles, I smile and when she hurts, I hurt. She is one of the best thing that has ever happened to me and I will never be the same.
My relactation (getting my breast milk back) has been slow going, but I am trying my best. I'm taking fenugreek, drinking mother's milk tea, and I'm pumping every three hours. Yesterday I pumped about 4 oz and today I have pumped a total of 5.5 oz in 4 pumping sessions. I haven't done any actual nursing yet, but I am feeding her what I get from a bottle.
We also switched bottles. We are trying Born Free and Dr. Browns. The Dr. Browns seem to take a lot longer for her to eat which I think is good for her gassiness-she was eating a 5 oz bottle in about 8 minutes with the avent bottles and it takes her about 20 minutes to drink 5 oz now. The Born Free bottles are nice but the level one nipples are still too fast for her I think.
At her 2 month appointment her Dr decided to switch her to zantac. This has been horrible! She has been spitting up so much more and screaming like she used to after feedings. It breaks my heart when she is in pain from the reflux. I called the Dr this morning and asked him about switching back and he said yes.
I also asked him about physical therapy for her neck and they are sending me a referral and the names of some physical therapists in the area. I hope it will help her straighten out!
P.S. we had this coconut chicken salad tonight and it was DELISH!!
I'm glad the relactation is working! Also, have you talked to a chiropactor about her neck?
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing how much we love our babies! I am hoping that I will love this new one as much as I do my daughter. I am sure that I will but sometimes I think that it can't be possible.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you are slowly getting your milk back. Hopefully Emily will nurse if/when the time is right again. But breastmilk in the bottle it still awesome for her. Push the fluids and keep pumping away.
Omg...SOOO proud of you for the relactation!! That has got to be hard work. The love is totally amazing :)
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job there mama! It is amazing at how much you can love another human being isn't it? :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you are still able to pump. I hope it continues to go well for you. Poor baby and her reflux. I wish there was a fix all for everything babies have to deal with. :(
ReplyDeleteOh my word, she is so adorable!!! Both Mech and I just melted when we saw her picture! :) I'm so glad the relactation is working... sounds like a tough job, but well worth it! I hope her little neck gets straightened out soon and that switching back helps.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry her reflux is worse! I thought it was a little strange when I read your last post because Zantac is the first medicine my Ped tries and then moves on to Prevacid after if it doesn't work. Maybe I misunderstood and they are just different kinds, but I thought Zantac was the weaker of the two.
ReplyDeleteMy family swears by tommee tippee bottles. Every baby has done well on them. It is so great you can still pump! I hope her reflux gets better and PT goes well.
ReplyDeleteShe's so adorable! I hope everything gets better and easier for you soon with the reflux and her little neck.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute picture! I love Dr. Brown's too!
ReplyDeleteI hope she is doing better on her old medicine!
Emily is SO adorable! Good luck with the pumping Bridget. Too funny...we had the coconut chicken salad for dinner last night as well. It was so good. Tonight I am going to try the coconut chicken recipe.
ReplyDeleteShe is TOO cute!!! Do you just kiss those cheeks all day? Enjoy the updates... and learning from them too!
ReplyDeleteI wish PC wasn't so picky, that meal sounds great!
What a cute picture!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad things are working out for you.
I can't believe she is 10 weeks old already! How did that happen?!?
ReplyDeleteShe's a cutie pie. I hope she's feeling better soon.
Happy 10 weeks, Emily! She is adorable. And OMG, that HAIR...I'm kind of obsessed with it!
