It is what it is...

I'm a bit emotional this week.  There I said it.  And even though I wouldn't trade any of these pregnancy symptoms for anything in the world, I have to get it out.

I'm 95% sure my emotional state has to do with the following...

1.  Heartburn.  After every single thing I eat (even breakfast cereal).  Thank God for tums is all I can say.  I try to think of them as a chalky tasty after meal mint.

2.  Swollen everything.  Feet, ankles, legs, hands- uncomfortably swollen.  I would like to hug the person who invented flip flops.

3.  The scale.  Holy shit.  I have been purposely not getting on the damn thing, but for some reason I thought it would be a good idea last night.  Well, it wasn't.  I have never seen anywhere close to the number that was staring back at me.  Look, I know I'm supposed to gain weight, I'm all for it.  But 25 pounds??? I'm only 25 weeks pregnant- I still have 15 weeks to go.  I now take full responsibility for eating like a cow (the nutty bars weren't such a great idea I guess) and not continuing my nightly walk with the dog.

4.  Heat.  I tried to go to a baseball game on Sunday and went home a whopping 20 minutes later.  I become a scarlet faced, heavy breathing mess in the heat. Cold air is my best friend these days. And I love when strangers come up to me and say, "You planned your pregnancy for the wrong time of year!"  Really?? Because the time of year was my main priority when going through IVF.

5.  Fear. I still get scared.  Scared something might happen to her, scared she'll come too early, just scared in general.  But I keep trying to remind myself that I am going to be scared for her even after she comes.  Such is the life of a parent, right?

So after having a good cry last night I went to bed, put my hands on my growing belly and felt my little miracle jumping around....and I felt so much better; swollen feet, heartburn, weight gain and all.

  1. So sorry! Being pregnant isn't an easy thing by any means at all. Try and think that in 15 weeks all the heartburn & swelling will be about gone. Don't beat yourself up about the weight. You will loose it. You would do it all again a million times over for your baby girl!!! You look so good in your pictures! I am not just saying that to be nice. You really do.

  2. Awww. Pregnant or not, it being this hot and sticky outside is uncomfy, so don't feel bad about it. As for the idiots telling you you planned your pregnancy wrong...I wouldn't have been able to keep my sassy mouth shut :) Hope you have a better rest of the week!

  3. I'm new to your blog (pregnant after infertility too - 28 weeks along). I feel for you! I wanted to suggest Zantac. I had bad heartburn too from *everything*. All my doctor told me was tums, so I was getting by with that... until I started throwing up stomach acid in my sleep. Not fun. A friend suggested taking Zantac 150 each night. It's as safe as Tylenol and it works! I take one each night and most mornings (it works for 12 hours). Now I just supplement with tums occasionally. I did ask my doctor and he said it was perfectly fine, so if it gets too bad, ask your doctor about it. :)

I look forward to following along with your story! :)

  4. It is super tough being pregnant in summer, but both of us didn't plan it that way, people's comments can be so ignorant sometimes!! I am experiencing the symptoms you are too, I think I've gone through 2 jumbo containers of Tums since becoming pregnant...and my hormones are nuts right now, I cry at everything! You precious baby will be here before you know it and all of this will be worth it! :-) You are doing great!

  5. Sorry you're feeling so crummy, hope this stage passes. There is a simple cure, but you'll have to wait approximately 15 more weeks for it ;)

  6. is there a prenatal yoga class in your area? during our class, our teacher points out specific poses that help heartburn and swelling, respectively. i am lucky that i don't really have a super hard time with either of these symptoms, but a few women in my class say that the poses do help. also the prenatal yoga dvd by ann richmond (6 workouts for pregnancy, or something like that) also points out which poses are good for helping those things. (hug) hang in there!

  7. Pregnancy is just all around hard! It's okay to vent and cry it out - we're here to support you! My sisters always have a rough go with summer pregnancy. My middle sister had a really rough one with her son. We went to visit her and her husband when she was 8 months pregnant. She was so uncomfortable and hot that she had the air conditioner running - in December. Take care of yourself and your precious little girl!

  8. It is a lot of changes and it is sooo hard to deal with. I struggle with it a lot too, I am used to feeling well and I guess I ahve taken that for granted my whole life, but it sucks to constantly have something wrong wtih you.
I am hoping you are feeling better and here is a tip someone gave me . . . put a large ice pack on your belly for about 10-20 minutes and you will cool down immediately!

  9. I think it is totally ok to vent...I mean we would all go crazy if we couldn't!!! I'm so sorry about your symptoms...I just know you can't be comfortable. It is just insane hot and the swelling has to be awful. Another person who commented said something about zantac. I haven't had any reflux or heartburn during this pregnancy (fingers crossed) BUT before I got pregnant I had it horrible, awful, terrible. The zantac 150's were the only thing that helped...it is on my list of meds from the doctor that are okay to take. I really hope you get some relief soon!

Just think...in 14 short weeks we will both be holding our baby girls in our arms :)

  11. xoxoxo.....I think these emotions are normal; at least from what I hear!! Cut yourself some slack, you are allowed to be emotional and worried. But you are right, the worrying about your baby girl has just begun!! xo

  12. I hope you are feeling a bit better after your good cry. The heat really does make everything harder to take. And the comments about timing pregnancy...oh, they really get me. People who stay stuff like that really have no clue that so many of us have no choice in the matter what so ever.

Stay cool! I'm heading to Iowa this weekend for a wedding, and I looked up how hot it actually is there...eeek!
