4 month wellness check

Today was Emily's 4 month check up and we all know what that means...shots.  Oh I hate the shots as much as she does. But my tough little girl did great as usual.

The good news:  she is 17.8 pounds, 27 inches long with a head circumference of 42 cm.  The nurse even measured her length twice because she thought she made a mistake, Emily is so long! She's a big, healthy girl and we love it! The Dr. said she is growing well and her development is right on track.

The not so good news:  her plagiocephaly (flat spot) isn't getting better and her face is beginning to show signs of asymmetry.  We were referred to the craniofacial specialist to see what they think about getting her a helmet.  While this isn't the news we had hoped for, we are happy that we caught it early and that it can be fixed.

If any of you have helmet experience please let me know!!

  1. That's really great that they referred Emily to a specialist and I hope they are able to get you an appointment quickly! She is just as long as Aiden is! Amazing how fast 4 months has gone!

  2. she's growing so fast! glad the check-up went so well. obviously, i haven't had any experience with a helmet, but my cousin's daughter wound up needing one and it totally fixed the problem. she is a healthy, beautiful little 4 year old now and you would never know to look at her that she ever wore a helmet. good luck!

  3. You've got yourself one healthy girl there! I'm sorry that you have to go to a specialist, but I agree it's good to catch it early. Does it seem like this didn't used to be as big of an issue? Maybe it's because babies used to sleep on their tummies, I don't know...And if she wears a helmet for awhile, you'll have so much fun decorating it! I've seen some really cute ones. :)

And she is one big healthy girl. Taylor was 13lb5oz and only 24.5 inches long at 4 months. You've made yourself one healthy little sweetie!

  6. Yeah for big kids! I don't personally have any experience with helmets, but had a friend who had to have one and they make them so fun and cute these days!

  7. Jadon got his helmet on almost 3 weeks ago and it is going well. We have already seen some changes, which is nice! His brand is Starband and they come in a lot of cute prints. They told us he would be in it for 4-6 months. The shorter time frame cause he's so young, but longer possible cause his was "severe". All I can say is if she needs it, get started asap cause they can change fast when they are this young, plus with summer coming, they can get HOT! Jadon needs to wear it 23 hours a day and it hasn't bugged him, except when we need to put it back on. I found a super cute site www.stylinbabyhelmets.com and got him some cute onesies. They have some cute flowers that you can add to her helmet via velcro plus some super cute hats that go over and cover up the helmet for summer! How is her tortocollis coming along? Crazy all these things that we deal with on top of IF that so many people don't understand, right?!

  8. Jadon has had a helmet on for 3 weeks so far and it is going pretty well. We've seen change in head shape already. He wears it 23 hours a day and that 1 hour off we wash the helmet and his head everyday (it can smell...) They said 4-6 months for timeframe...less time cause he's so young, but maybe longer cause he was so "severe". The brand he has is Starband and they had a lot of cute prints. I found a site www.stylinbabyhelmets.com that has some awesome onesies, flowers that attach via velcro and hats to go over the hemets in summer, sooo cute!! Jadon has a soccer themed helmet so we got him the "It's a soccer injury" onesie and he's actually wearing it today! They did say that we have to keep working on the tortocollis or his head may go back...these babes keep us busy, don't they? But they are sooo worth it! Emily is sooo cute!

  13. Wow, 27 inches at 4 months!!!! I thought A was long, clearly, that is nothing!
I'm sorry about the helmet, you will just have to bedazzle the shit out of it and rock it out!
I love that you call her the honey badger!!!
Whenever my husband gets on the verge of road rage, I just call them stupid in that voice and he just can't be pissed anymore!!

  14. I used to work at a peds office, they had a lot of patients with helmets and my cousins that I watched had them too. It is better to do it when they are younger because once they can use their hands more they will be trying to take it off all the time! I have seen some amazing before and after pics. I hope it helps.
