Helmet news

Today we had Emily's head scan for her helmet.  The scan only took 1.5 seconds and was super easy. Her head measured at 6.6mm asymmetry which is considered moderate.  The orthotist told us that most insurance companies don't cover helmets for under 6mm. So compared to some cases, her head isn't that bad and should be relatively easy to fix.

So, in two weeks  Emily will be getting a clear helmet (similar to this) that is supposed to be cooler (temperature wise... but baby girl will look cool, believe me) and less bulky for the summer. I'm already looking at stickers to decorate her it, there are tons of websites for this, who knew?

In other news, my blood tests came back normal so the next step is to go see my pcp to see about what other tests need to be done.

    Yes, I've seen some great websites out there to make the helmets oh so cute! I'd like to think it's a good thing your blood tests came back normal, but at the same time you are probably wanting some answers. Hopefully your pcp will have some and will get you on the road to feeling better!

    She IS going to look great in her helmet! Have fun decorating it. I guess her measurment is good then. If it were much smaller maybe your insurance wouldn't want to cover it either. They should pay for it esp since they were no help with her special formula. Good to hear your bloodwork was normal.

    You totally should buy some stick on rhinestones and make some designs, I think they sell them at places like Claire's at malls. Check out scrap booking stuff too. Lots of my pediatric patients do that on their hearing aids.

    That is amazing how fast they can do a scan! Emily is going to be the cutest helmet wearing baby ever! Hope you can figure out what's going on after the b/w came back normal.

    She is such a cutie, with or without a helmet! Her name & a flower sticker & you'll have the cutest baby helmet out there!
    Our baby's hemangioma & Emily having to wear a helmet are no doubt hurdles but they are issues that can be resolved and for that I am thankful!
