* Emily has been sleeping terribly for the past couple of weeks. Steve and I were getting up to put her pacifier in about 500 times a night. Not fun. So last night I broke down and read Ferber's book. Yes, I was so desperate for sleep that I was going to let poor Emily cry it out. What I learned from his book is that her pacifier (or lack of) was probably the thing that was waking her up multiple times per night and only allowing her to nap for 30 minutes. Last night we got rid of the pacifier cold turkey. I was sure we would be up all night with a crying baby but she only cried for about 10 minutes and then she slept- the.whole.night. And today she has napped for over an hour each time! Victory. (Knock on wood)
* We had our appointment with the craniofacial doc last week and Emily will soon be sporting a helmet. While it's not the best news, it's ok with us, we aren't that upset, and we are just glad it's something that can be fixed. The appointment was at Pittsb.urgh's Chil.dren's Hospital and it was heartbreaking to see little kids dealing with so much.
* Emily is loving solids and disco music. So far she likes oatmeal, avocado, pears, sweet potatoes, bananas and apples. Shake Your Booty is her favorite song. What can I say, she has good taste.
* I've lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks and I have pre-pregnancy jeans on today. Granted, they are the biggest pre-pregnancy jeans I own but hopefully I'll be working my way down to the rest of them very soon. I guess wei.ght wa.tchers really does work when you set your mind to it (also, not stuffing your face like you're still pregnant works too). I'm finding tons of good recipes on pin.terest (I'm obsessed, isn't everyone?) here are a couple of my favorites:
Protein Ranch- this stuff is awesome. It tastes just like ranch and it's only 1 point for a 1/4 cup, in my book that is aaaaamazing.
Cake with applesauce- sometimes I need dessert. I found these recipes for cake without using oil or eggs. 5 stars, all the way.
Cheesy cauliflower pancakes- we had these for a side dish one night- yum.
Zucchini tots- like tater tots only better for you.
aaaah, the dreaded pacifier. we normally have to replace taylor's pacifier 2 or 3 times a night. not horrible, but not great either.
ReplyDeletei've been thinking about going cold turkey. keep us updated with how it turns out, okay?
Those zucchini tots look amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYa, some days I WISH Stella would take a pacifier (like when we're in the car and she's tired), but at night, I'm glad we're not worrying about replacing it all the time. I'm glad Em is sleeping better for you now!
Congrats on the weight loss! And I'm definitely trying those Zucchini Tots. They look GREAT and not too caloric.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the weight loss!!! And thanks for posting the recipes...they all look great!! Loving Emily's taste in songs to groove to!
ReplyDeleteso glad she's sleeping better now! good job on the weight loss! i bet it feels awesome fitting into those jeans. way to go!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job on the weight loss! That is great news about the paci. It's like magic :) And also, I laughed out loud at Emily loving solids and disco. My baby cousin used to rock out to Brick House when she was teeny tiny!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss! Glad you figured out how to get her to sleep. Hope it keeps up!
ReplyDeleteYay for more sleep & weight loss! Weight Watcher's is great and if you stick with it you will loose. It is hard to not eat all the yummy bad stuff but you do get good results. I still only have 2 pre-pregnancy jeans that I fit into. Pre-pregnancy is pre-pregnancy! I am sure E is going to look adorable in her helmet.
ReplyDeleteI bet you feel like a new woman now that she is sleeping better! So does that mean you've done away with the paci for good, or just when you put her down? Way to go on the weight loss! One hot mama gearing up for spring and summer! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job Emily! Sometimes you just have to go with the crying it out...it majorly sucks, but you and Emily both need sleep! Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing a great job! I need to get back on track with my weight watchers this week...I ate out a little too much this weekend! :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, such great news!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSleeping is so important to me being a good mom and I still go to work. I can't imagine being at home with an overly tired baby, must be so hard (but amazing too).
yippee that the paci elminination paid off!!!
ReplyDeleteglad to hear you are in good hands at pittsburgh children's- emily will look super cute in a helmet :) she just better sport a steelers sticker!!
GO YOU on the weight loss and getting into those prepregnancy jeans!! I swear I have nightmares that I am going to have to get rid of all of my clothes that I wore before I got pregnant- frightened I tell you!!
luv ya and glad to hear you are well!
Oh, sweet Emily... you must let your mama sleep! So glad she's allowing you more zzzz's now that she figured out the no-paci :)
ReplyDeleteI am sure the helmet is not fun, but it is truly the right thing to do... she'll be in a better situation in a couple weeks/month. Her little bean will be perfect (not that it's not already)!
We battled the pacifier when she was a newborn, but she quickly figured it out and now that she is bigger we just throw several in the crib at night so there is always one close by to pop back in her mouth. :)
ReplyDeleteoh wow what a difference getting rid of that soother made for you. Great for you for getting into pre preggo jeans, doesn't it feel wonderful! Just pace yourself - it took 9 months to put it down so give yourself some time.
