We are trying to transition Emily to two naps per day instead of three. This is hard! If anyone has any ideas to make it easier let me know. The reason I'm doing this is because she has been napping great- usually an hour in the morning, an hour and a half in the afternoon and then 45 minutes in the late afternoon. But her nighttime sleep.....terrible. She goes to bed fine at 7:00 but she wakes up crying at 11:30, 2:30 and at 5:30 she wants to be up for the day. Thankfully, Steve takes most of the work at night but we are both exhausted. As soon as we pick her up she stops crying, when we put her down she cries again. Last night we let her cry it out. She woke up at 11:30, cried for a few minutes, I went in a shushed her but didn't pick her up, she cried a little more and then just laid awake/playing for an hour and a half (!!) then went back to sleep until 5:30 and wanted to be up for the day. This girl is going to kill us with lack of sleep. Oh and I love Merlin's magic sleep suit but she is going to grow out of it soon and she will not sleep without it now. Great.
In the pregnancy department, I haven't had many symptoms except being tired and a small amount of nausea. I'm 9w3d today and I had an OB appointment on Monday. The Dr found the heart beat with a doppler and that brought so much relief!
Emily has done some really great stuff in the past couple of weeks. Saying mama, clapping, and playing "so big". She still has no interest is scooting or crawling, she hates being on her knees. Yesterday she worked on standing during PT and she loves it now! Her last helmet appointment went really well and she will have another head scan in a month and might graduate from her helmet early!

standing and so proud of herself! |
Glad to hear you are doing well! I don't have any advice about sleep issues - we are having some of our own; Lexi refuses to sleep in her crib for more than a couple hours, the she screams, we go get her, she goes back to sleep - try to put her in her crib and her eyes fly open and the screaming resumes...eventually she ends up in our bed because she will sleep there and we are exhausted! I hope you find a solution soon so you can both get some much needed rest!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Lexi to say "mama" I can only imagine the feeling!
Love the pictures, she is so cute!!!
Such a big girl!! The sleep thing sounds rough. Honestly I can't remember how we transitioned Chloe to two naps a day, and in the last few weeks she's gone with just one nap (not the norm though). Is her room dark? Does she have a blanket or something to soothe her? How exciting that you got to hear the heartbeat, ahh this is all so great that you are pregnant with #2!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I can't give any advice about sleep at all, but the advice other people have given me is that more sleep during the day actually improves sleep at night and to read the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" (I haven't yet) or Ferber.
ReplyDeleteWow, big girl!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry about teh sleep thing. It's so hard and confusing. The only thing I can think of is maybe push her afternoon nap back a bit and keep her up until 8?
Avery has always been an early waker too. She has never slept past 7:20. Her usual wake up time is 6:05 on the dot everyday. I just go to bed early and suck up the early mornings, but I am not pregnant, so that is a huge difference!
Good luck!
I remember just plain cutting out the 3rd nap when Aiden's night sleep started getting rough again. It took a week or so for his body to adjust and for him to not be so fussy, but he finally got it. I say just cut the 3rd nap out cold turkey and try your best to keep her awake until bedtime. Keep your nap-times the same during the day with no more than 4 hours in between them and you should be good to go! I hope it goes smoothly for you and Emily!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear positive news about your pregnancy!! Those first few weeks are always so scary, especially when you don't have tons of symptoms!
ReplyDeleteEmily is such a big girl. I love that she plays "soooo big". How fun!!!!!! Good luck transitioning out of Merlin's suit. We started with naps and then went with the full night.
Such good news! And our daughter didn't like crawling much. She skipped straight to walking. : )
ReplyDeleteI am by NO means a "sleep expert" (I can't even get my kid to sleep in his crib at nap time) but, he HAS been sleeping through the night since he was 8 weeks old, so I'll share a few "tips" :) Make sure her room is DARK!! Also, try bathing her at night right before bed.. Our night time routine goes like this: at 7:00 start bath time, and use Johnson's nighttime bath wash.. Who knows if it "really" helps with sleep, but it works for us.. Then we bring him downstairs with us, and give him his last bottle of the night, so that he's nice and full before bed.. After his bottle, he'll take his pacifier.. I take him up to bed about 8-8:30, and he's out for the night.. Lately he has been waking up at either 4 am or 6 am to eat and for a diaper change, but then goes right back down until 9 or so.. Maybe try pushing her bedtime back a little bit.. I know if my son is boycotting naps (which seems to be happening alot around here lately) he wants to go to bed at 7.. I put him to bed at 7, then he's up at 5:30 and wants to be up for he day.. I hope some of this helps for you :) And YAY for hearing the heartbeat!! BEST sound EVER ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter all my "he sleeps 12 hours!" bs, the little man has started waking up at 6 or 6:30 to which mommy said, "Oh, I don't think so." He comes in bed with me until 7:30, something I swore I would NEVER do. God, I just want sleep...can't imagine what you're going through, but you will get through it!!!
ReplyDeleteps - Emily is awesome, as always!
Wish I had some sleep advice... but sadly, I don't, so I'll just wish you the best with it! :)
ReplyDeleteSo great to see how well Emily is doing with her helmet and that she may even finish with it early. Can't believe how much she is growing up... and saying Mama, clapping.. wow!!
Also, great to hear this pregnancy is going well for you.. other than that darn tiredness. So great that you got to hear the heartbeat!!! Exciting!
I can't believe you are almost 10 weeks, wow! Glad to hear things are going well.
ReplyDeleteEmily is getting so big and is beyond cute. Before you know it she will be scooting and then walking in no time.
Hugs,
Ashley

Not sure if I've congratulated you yet on number two! (I've been so horrible at commenting lately!) That is such amazingly fantastic news! Emily is such a cutie. I hope you work out the sleep issues soon.
ReplyDeleteNo sleep advice, we are up every couple of hours! LB goes back to sleep but there is no such thing as several hours of "uninterrupted" sleep. Do you have one of those mobiles that projects a scene with music onto the ceiling? LB will lay awake content & watch that when he wakes up way too early, which gives us a little more sleep. She says "I don't need any beauty sleep mom, I'm beautiful enough!" Sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Obviously I have no sleep advice. But I really hope it gets better soon...for both of us! Those pictures kill me...I mean seriously...what a personality she has!
ReplyDeleteStill so happy about #2! Every time I think about it I get tears of joy in my eyes!
