flying home

This weekend we are flying back to Illinois for an early birthday celebration for Miss Emily ....yes, I said flying....with an almost one year old.

She has never flown before and I am a nervous flyer as it is.  Thankfully, Steve used to be a frequent flyer and has no problem with it.  The whole trip will take about 5-6 hours including a 2 hour layover- which is not bad at all compared to a 10+ hour drive.

I have a million types of snacks and a few new toys and books to keep her occupied.  Is there anything else I can do to make this as painless as possible?

Tell me all of your tricks to keep a baby (honey badger) happy on a plane, pleaseandthankyou.

  1. Sounds like you have it pretty covered - I would make sure to have a bottle or something to suck on at take-off and landing to help with the ear pressure! Good luck :)

  3. Good luck, I'm sure it will be just fine. I avoid planes at all costs so I don't have any tips for you. :(

  4. Sounds like you are all set! EEEK! I'm getting excited for you, you MUST let me know immediately (like the plane landing/taking off) how Emily is doing! Lol It will go great, besides it can't be any worse than screaming for 10 hours! :)

  6. You should bring ear plugs to hand out as a joke to those around you if she gets to screaming.

  10. O man, I dread flying with the kids, but we havent had too terrible of an experience yet. Bring lots of snacks, coloring books, any comfort items she would have..and I might be known to give the boys some motrin too, dont judge, my mom said it was okay ;) Good luck!

  12. So much easier than you would think and there are two of you!

I would put her in her carrier and go that way! Also, there is a line (typically to the left of the regular line) for family security check. They don't advertise it, but you WAMT this line.
Avery has been on five flights now and we have learned, when you go to the gate, go straight to the counter and find out if the flight is full. If it isn't when you board go straight to the back of the plane and take the row of three. Act like you bought her a ticket. This is the ideal place, it is louder so if she cries, people don't hear it as much and the last place someone wants to take a seat is in the back of the plane and sitting next to a baby!

    Good luck
